Where are they now?
Spilly & Brent –In July 2019, the Nessmans played a gig at beautiful Gleneden Hall...reviews ranged from "Those guys have aged well considering the stuff they put into their bodies!" to "Those guys actually play their instruments!?!?!" They released their first music video and their album is available on iTunes. All LWO members are required to buy or illegally download (which is what Spilly would do) the Nessmans’ album. Consider it part of your annual team fees.
The Champ – Due to not attending some LWO events, the "Wade" briefly lost Champ status. However, like a phoenix rising from the ashes The Champ is back!
Keithski – In Germany? Or Revelstoke?
John Hump– Hump came out of retirement to join the mighty Legends in 2019 and 2023 and won 2 more titles. The LWO is currently in talks to mass produce Hump's secret sauce as championships have only been won when Johnny Hump is on the roster.
Lebs, Bait & Perry – Triple comebacks in 2019! Lebs+Bait+Perry= Championship.
Chad P– Unknown. We assume he is still kicking the shit out of dudes, but this time in sanctioned UFC-style fights. Still waiting for details regarding Chet’s next fight.
Scotty– Speaking of fighting, Scotty is still pursuing his dream of fighting a chimp to the death. In the interim, he is busy co-hosting LWO Radio shows and running marathons to raise money for the MD society. Scotty won championships with the 2019, and 2023 o35 Legends.

When the idea of the Legends of Hockey was first discussed, an obvious problem was that none of us are goalies. Thankfully, Gussy knew a guy, and that guy became a Legend. Thomas joined us at our first tournament in 2013 and it didn't take long to realize that we did not have a goalie problem (in hockey at least), as he backstopped us to a win in our debut tournament. He was so impressed with his experience as a Legend that he decided to relocate his family to the Mecca of the LWO...Salmon Arm. For an on-ice encore, Thomas started the 2014 tournament with back-to-back shutouts, including a particularly satisfying one against the "didiots" from Didsbury. He is a three time, three time, three time champion with the Legends and we look forward to adding more titles with him in the pipes.

Just when we thought the LWO couldn't get any more Legendary, we were proven wrong when when Holla joined in 2016. Holla cut his teeth with Bays, Dukes FC, frat boys, and classes with a John Kruk lookalike at UVIC and then rapidly worked his way up the LWO ranks. From humble beginnings as the guy responsible for taking pics with a selfie stick, to joining the LWO management team in 2019 and guiding the over 40s to tournament glory, Holla is a true "glue guy." Passions include underwear design conversations with Rimek, hard core accessories, pondering installation of an ATM in the beer gardens and creating LWO videos celebrating tournament victories. Holla is also the creator and host of the viral internet sensation known as LWO Radio. As a member of the LWO executive committee, Holla is looking to expand his role into merchandise design (a job he is well qualified for from his Dukes' days), so keep your eye out for King Holla designs in the years to come. Holla is a self-taught recorder savant and all-around Legend.

Adam joined the Legends on the ice and on the pitch in 2013...and we won both tournaments that year leading to Adam being named "Rookie Legend of the year." Adam’s Legend status has only grown from there and hockey highlights include another tournament victory in 2015 and an epic shootout winner in 2016. On the pitch, Adam is one of the few Legends who actually still has some speed. As a result, he terrorized over 40s opponents in 2019, including a huge performance in the finals (in which he scored the tournament winning goal). Adam’s off-field contributions include purchasing glorious chalices for the LWO’s 25th anniversary party and patiently allowing other Legends to toss urine around in his van. Watch out when this Legend goes into "Adamize mode" as he will get ludicrous and poke drunk bears and swim in Maguire Lake.

Britchy has been a Legend of Hockey since the beginning of time (2012). While injured for our first tournament, Britchy still made the trek to Salmon Arm. And evidently felt feisty enough to get in the mix (at least verbally) during the Kevin Taillefer-instigated rumble versus the much-hated Didsbury. Britchy leads the Legends of Hockey in career penalty minutes by a sizeable margin and has been a key contributor to numerous tournament victories. Britchy has also made multiple appearances at soccer beer gardens over the years and deserves much credit for being one of the few out of town hockey Legends to represent at the LWO’s 25th anniversary bash. As dedicated to the cause as any Legend, we look forward to many more Legendary tournaments with Britchy.

Sean made his Legends’ debut in 2018, but had previously played many a tournament with the LWO boys in Vernon July long tournaments. Fortunately, since becoming a Legend, Sean is able to see the tournaments to the finish line (he previously scored bundles of goals to help get us to the finals, but had to return home on the Monday). While Sean can dominate from pretty much any position on the pitch, he has decided to take his talents to centre back. This is a position Sean made his own in his days with the Williams Lake Lightning and UVIC. Turning the LWO from one team to two is in large part due to Sean staying in touch with the LWO over the years, joining up with us in 2018 rather than starting his own team and combining with Ryan to help us add a number of Legends in 2019 to round out the roster. We expect clean sheets, goals and tournament victories from Sean for years to come.

Ryan joined up with the LWO in 2018 after honing is craft with such teams as the Williams Lake Lightning, UBC, West Vancouver and TRU. Ryan’s first two goals as a Legend resulted in him taking the LWO all-time lead in Wayne Gretzky toasters won...we take this as a sign of what lays ahead for Ryan in his time with the LWO. Ryan played a vital role in leading the LWO 35s to tournament victory in 2019, inspiring Legends old and older with his will to win. RG also escaped a beer garden-related benching with a fine display of popping and locking on the dance floor followed by security at the Sandman confirming Ryan met team curfew with his return to the hotel that evening. Perhaps Ryan’s most noteworthy accomplishment of 2019 was running a tall defender so ragged in the semis that Mikey P and T bore witness to said defender shitting himself at the pub that evening. Earlier that day, Ryan set up the first goal and scored the winner in the LWO’s most epic comeback of all time. RG was born a Legend and much is expected of him (on and off the field) in the years to come. His appearance on LWO Radio is not to be missed.

Brem moved from Halifax to Victoria (via Calgary) just to make his commute to the Legends’ annual Vernon pilgrimage a tad easier; now that is dedication. Perhaps Brem’s greatest on-field contribution was his spectacular crotch goal during the Legends’ 2013 tournament victory. His off-field accomplishments are many, but highlights include his eating of a dirty bandaid in an epic beer garden session and comments like "Shut your mouth when your're talking to me" and "I scheduled an extra sailing for us." In 2019, Brem took his talents to outside back and played a big role in the Legends double tournament victory extravaganza. While some might debate whether he has any rights (such as freedom of expression or the right to oxygen), others will claim he is charter member of the 76ers and a Legend to the core. The island crew would like to thank him for adding a 10pm sailing on the Monday of the May Long weekend.

Legend Rich joined us in 2013 at the strong recommendation of Coolio and he is a great fit with the Legends. Towards the end of 2013’s glorious title run, Rich demonstrated his desire for ongoing Legends involvement by purchasing a tray of delicious beers in exchange for a coveted scarf and this act (and the beer) caused Monty to instantly fall in love with him. Since 2013, Rich is the unofficial leader in beer garden beverages purchased which is the stat that every red blooded Legend covets the most. He is not just a beer aficionado though, he has also potted a few goals over the years. Legend Rich is consistently the first to arrive (in style, naturally) to Legends’ weekend in Vernon and usually one of the last to leave. He was also a member of the o40s championship team in 2019. Here’s to brother Rich!

Knighter has played for the mighty LWO since 2015 and has fit in like a beer in Monty's hand. From putting in heavy sessions in the beer gardens, to late night escapades at Denny's, to organizing the purchase of custom LWO socks, he encapsulates what the LWO stands for. His influence in society can be seen in the Spring-time on the sign outside of the Salmon Arm arena when, thanks to Dave, travelers on the Trans-Canada highway can bask in the glory of the Legends of Hockey logo. One of the best beer garden songs to be created over the last few years has been the ode to Knighter (sung to the tune of the Black Eyed Peas "I Gotta Feeling") that ends with "This Legend over here is Dave Knight, this Legend over here is Dave, Dave, Knight!"

Alec’s debut season with the Legends was 2019...and what a debut! Alec suited up in net for the 35s and the 40s, including coming in part way through the 40s semi-finals in a 1-1 game and shutting the door as the Legends cruised to victory. Alec showed up slightly late for the 40s finals, even though he thought he was the starting keeper, subbed in (after some debate between Holla and Dollack as to whether that was a good move given the distant look in his eyes) and scored a beauty of a goal, following it up with a running windmill celebration. Not surprisingly, Alec was unanimously voted the o40s Rookie Legend of the Year (he was the only rookie on the o40s). As good as Alec’s on-field debut was, it was off the field that he really excelled. Alec feels mildly aggrieved that the entire team vanished (likely over the course of multiple hours) after the beer gardens closed one evening, leaving a disoriented Alec with little chance of finding his way back to the hotel (that was a 5 minute walk away). Fortunately, kind police officers spotted this wayward Legend cuddled up with a fire hydrant and brought him back to safety. With many skills to offer the Legends, Alec is sure to add to his already potent legacy in years to come.

Dave is old school Salmon Arm and a defensive stalwart for both the Legends of Hockey and the LWO Legends football club. His SA roots go deep with branches in Ranchero, the Shuswap Teachers minor hockey team, and Shuswap Junior High. His Paul Bunyanesque physique and full on man strength has long filled opponents with fear...but his potent wrath is rarely shown unless he is faced with a particular group of douchebags from Didsbury. "Dolly" has won multiple tournies with the mighty LWO and will no doubt be an integral part of many more.

English Dave came to the LWO in 2014 and has rolled with the Legends since. Before becoming a Legend, Dave honed his skills in Derby, England (which links to Salmon Arm because it is the home of the Rams, just like Shuswap Jr. High). Dave is a superbly skilled and composed presence on the field and has fit in seamlessly with the Legends on and off the field. In 2019, English Dave suited up for both the o35s and the o40s resulting in the Legendary double tournament victory that will be talked about for generations to come. That weekend Dave not only potted a goal, but also famously set up the lethal Spilly Benson in a moment of brilliance we have not seen since the mid 90s when Spilly lit up the Rammettes. We expect that many highlights lay ahead for this classy Legend.

Peach is a beauty and a Jam Can world champion. He is the kind of Legend that exudes positive energy. Rider ran with the Legends on the pitch in 2010, but his legacy from that tournament was the 10 minute intro song that left opponents and referees bewildered. Peach has been a fixture with the Legends of Hockey since 2012, dominating the left wing and enjoying tournament victories on three occasions (although he was driving home while the Legends won the 2013 tournament). He remains the maestro behind Legends’ intro music and his chicken pass years ago was the thing of Legend. Also, his sister is hot.

Brent ran with the LWO in 1994 and left behind an enduring legacy of excellence on and off the pitch. Upon winning the '94 tournament, he announced his retirement and started cashing in on the LWO Pension Plan. Koski did come out of retirement for the Legends' reunion tournament in 2010 and also chipped in with a dazzling display for one game in Vernon in 2019 (all signs point to the comeback progressing further next year). He also marks Jackson's triumph over Shuswap at Mac and Guy's stag as one of his great sporting achievements. Koski is a key cog in the Legends of Hockey's ongoing success and has played a big role in three tournament victories (which after suffering through some lean years on Salmon Arm rep teams he cherishes). Brent is also lead vocals and plays guitar for the LWO's favourite band, The Nessmans. This is a Legend that has done it all and yet has plenty in the tank to help lead the Legends into the 2020s.

Mooch has been an imposing striker and MVP keeper in his LWO tenure. Up front, Mooch and Chad formed Salmon Arm’s version of the twin towers in the 90s. Mooch also found time to lead the LWO to championships from the net in ’94, ’98 and ’99. He was named the MVP keeper in the repeat years, with a ridiculous six consecutive clean sheets in ’99. Mooch was a sore sight for any opposing shooter as he was an exceptional shot stopper, huge, and just a little bit crazy. He was such a beast that anyone in the box (including his own defenders) often got wiped out on crosses...MacDaddy will never forget jumping in the air, hearing "Keeper!" and then getting pummeled and breaking a molar tooth. But despite his athletic aggressiveness, John is a sweetheart as shown when his love of animals led to a broken wrist one August Long...on his way to the Wire, he mysteriously broke his wrist while shepherding some orphaned baby ducks across the Trans Canada Highway. The official LWO statement assured his fans that alcohol was not involved.

Hump is one of three LWO members who actually has five August Long tourney titles to his name (the others are Sherm and Stanch). A classy left mid and left back, Hump made miracles appear mundane on the pitch. Hump also enjoyed our annual pilgrimage to Williams Lake, where he was known for many a late-night Dennys run. Off the field, Hump’s most memorable moment occurred at the Yellow/Gray LWO Golf Classic. With his team in control heading to the last hole and relying on Hump to bring them home, he unexpectedly pulled out his 3-wood on a hole not much longer than 100 yards. Shockingly, this resulted in two straight shots sailing long and out of bounds. Victory lost, but a Legend born. The knock-down 3-wood on the last hole of the Executive Course in Salmon Arm has become a glorious tradition of LWO golf. Hump won more championships in 2019, and 2023 with the o40 Legends and the LWO has never won a title without him on the roster.

J Haas joined the LWO in 2005 and promptly established himself as a dominant physical force on the backline. An absolute nightmare to go into a challenge against, Jordan has turned many an opponent into a timid boy (including some sheeshers from Seleccion). Jordan is also known for hosting various LWO members at his family’s cabin in Courtenay for the local summer tourney and the accompanying shenanigans. In a friendly in-between game kick-around, J Haas nearly brained Gavin Sherman with a stray shot that could have marred what has otherwise been a breathtaking run with the LWO. Haas' dedication to the LWO cannot be questioned and this pilgrim has made yearly returns to the holyland despite living in exotic places like Australia and Colorado...Legendary.

Bait joined the LWO in 2004 and somehow managed to acquire the #4 jersey from Hump. Nobody is entirely sure how this happened. Perhaps Bait used his blinding good looks to convince Hump that #2 was pretty sweet. Bait’s early contributions to the LWO involved sending him out into a group of girls and him reeling them in to the larger LWO group. Handsome. Witty. Not entirely sure whether the annual tourney will be in Salmon Arm or Williams Lake. Bait has also written a beautiful song called Balls, that is broken out in the basement of T’s parents’ place each August Long. On the field, Bait is pure magic. He scores, he defends, he does a bit of everything. Few will forget the diving header Bait scored in 2006 off a long cross from Keithski. A comeback to tourney play in 2019 resulted in a championship for Bait with the 035 Legends.

Mur, along with Gammy, formed the heart of the LWO midfield for years. An outstanding all-field player, Mur continues to be one the LWO's most influential players. Mur's dedication to year-round fitness (most notably, flexed-arm hangs and P90X) is matched by very few on the Lightning or elsewhere. Mur likely took up soccer to escape the shadow that comes from being baseball icon Larry Walker's younger brother, but baseball's loss has been the LWO's gain. Mur is blessed with a keen business sense (just ask him about his idea for bringing bulk food to the masses) and he has spread the benefit of this genius with the LWO as is evidenced by his funding of the party room at The Prestige to celebrate the 2006 championship and his offer to supply the LWO with new jerseys to keep us handsome as we move forward to another decade of dominance. Murdog's hot yoga inspired fitness allowed him to contribute to both the o35 and o40 championships in 2019.

Poulis played with the Livewire Lightning in the ‘90s, but when work took him to Williams Lake, he joined forces with the rival boys from the puddle, even enjoying a tourney or victory or two. But then reality set in and he felt the need to return to his roots. The LWO. Since that time, Poulis has used his mad skills to control the centre of the park. He might not be the tallest player on the field, but he is quite short. Off the field, Brett is a big proponent of Garbage Can Safety Awareness Month. This is a result of having nearly lost his life to a garbage can set in cement at the bottom of a very steep hill as we rolled into Williams Lake for the much-loved May long tourney. Brett looks forward to finishing school by 2034.

Chad was a physically dominant striker for the LWO in the ‘90s. Fast, powerful and a fan of Motley Crue ... Chad had it all. Chad scored the tourney-winning goal in the 1994 finals and, perhaps more impressively, laid a serious beat-down on a punk Delta kid in the ’97 semis. This kid made the on-field mistake of telling Chad to hit him. So Chad did. Repeatedly. The ref wisely showed red to both and advised the beaten Delta kid that he had asked for it; there should be no reward for getting your ass kicked. Chet reappeared as a Legend in the 2010 Vernon tourney and is still in his prime.

The Godfather and captain of the LWO. Gammy was the heart and soul of the LWO for many years. A dominating presence in the centre of the park for most of his years with the LWO, Gammy transitioned to play outside mid as well as at the #10 spot. A tireless worker with exceptional skill, Gammy had few equals line up across from him over the years. Gammy also had an uncanny ability to score the big goal, including the overtime winner in the 1994 quarters against Williams Lake (among the most important wins in LWO history) and a last minute tourney winner against Canmore in 2006. Easily the most sane of the Walters clan, Gammy was a vital cog in the LWO machine. Gammy gave a glimmer of hope regarding a comeback by attending (but not playing) at the 2017 tourney. We are still crossing our fingers that an o40 appearance is in the cards.

Stanch joined the LWO in 2005 after successful stints with Williams Lake, the University of Alberta Golden Bears, and Bays United. He quickly became a key figure on the LWO and was the tournament MVP in the LWO's 2006 Championship campaign. Stanch is also known for his precision free-kicks and a stunning own-goal in Port Alberni. He continues to be a leader on the LWO and plays in the offseason with the Legends of Hockey.

Now that he is o35 he can not only hang out with Legends, but also officially be one on and off the playing field. He brings a team first mentality, youthful athleticism, and strong game sense to the o35 roster and logs significant minutes at tournies.

One of the LWO’s unquestioned leaders and key figures in most of the landmark LWO moments over the years. Mac designed the famous LWO logo and has been instrumental in ensuring merchandise rolls out each and every year. Shirts, jackets, mugs, coozies, toques, scarves ... LWO members would be far less fashionable if it were not for MacDaddy. On the field, some might even call him a talisman. Mac has only missed 4 games in the history of the LWO and is the unofficial all-time leading goal scorer for the LWO. Mac also set up the golden goal by White (he was not yet The Champ) in 1998 and the SA tourney-winning goal by Gammy in 2006. Pre-game LWO sermons, pep-talks involving fornication with cows and performing the Heimlich on a choking Lebs are also among his achievements.

Guy has established himself as a left mid Legend over the years. Precision set pieces, clutch penalty kicks, exceptional crosses and more than his share of goals have cemented his place in LWO folklore. But it is Guy’s off-field antics that sometimes get overlooked. Guy is sneaky crazy. You might not notice this trait at first glance, but he is the sort of guy (or Guy) who shows up last to a team party, but within minutes is the drunkest. Guy might even believe an open door is locked and, out of a misguided rage, trash Spilly’s mom’s house. Or he might get caught urinating in the stairwell of a Vancouver hotel. Or he might take a 20 second pull off of LWOrton as he leaves the beer garden and then get kicked out of a family dinner. But then he’ll hit that clutch free kick or penalty and all will be back to normal. Guy also has a fierce loyalty to Jackson.

Coolio is a Legend at right back and between the pipes on the pitch, and as a defenseman on the ice. He is the unquestioned leader of the LWO choir and the beer gardens. Coolio has the voice of an angel and a commanding presence that demands (often literally) attention. On the pitch, Coolio has evolved from a dominant right back known for his all-out effort and ridiculously long throw (that set up a key goal by Mac Daddy in the 1998 semis against Fort Langley) to a keeper who the LWO can rely on in any big game. One of his most memorable off-field moments came in the beer gardens at Blackburn where he commented that a girl passing by had a bit of a fat dumper, but a nice rack and was walking with confidence. Unfortunately, the gentleman seated next to Coolio informed him that the girl was his daughter. Coolio is one of just 2 men in LWO history (Mac being the other) to be on the roster of every soccer and hockey championship team.

There is skill on the pitch and then there is Dave McPhate. Davey is a man who could beat opponents without actually moving. Unbelievable ball control and precision passing were the hallmarks of this Legend's game. Davey's passion was trying to scoop goalies from inside the six while the rest of us pleaded for him to shoot. Davey was a huge piece of the puzzle that brought the LWO back-to-back titles in '98 and '99, forming a dynamic Scottish striking duo with Mac. After Mac put two by a strong Fort Langely team in the '98 semis, Davey iced the game with a bender from the top of the 18. But it wasn't the exquisite goal that we remember -- it was the fact that as soon as he hit it, Davey turned to the bench and started his celebration with a simple question: "How do you like that boys?" Davey returned to the LWO for our title run in 2006, but has since been placed in the witness relocation program. None of us know what he witnessed, but maybe some day he will reappear and tell us. Until that day, we remember Davey as the Man of the Match for every LWO game ever played.

Yags is a physically dominant force, whether it be in the middle of the park or at centre back, that strikes fear in the opposition's hearts. It is a rare sight to see anyone go up for a ball with Sammy and come out a winner. Yags earned his LWO stripes after a successful apprenticeship with Lakehill and is the LWO's leader in shots purchased. This guy is hard AF...witness him playing almost the full 2018 season on a broken leg; he eventually took a bit of time off to recover and then won a championship that year with the o35 Legends.

Old School joined the LWO in 1994 and has made an impact matched by few others. When the rest of us were learning the ropes, Old School was setting the example. Be in shape. Work hard when you are on the field. Do whatever it takes to win. Support each other on and, just as importantly, off the field. An opponent might (very occasionally) get by Old School. The ball might get by Old School. But an opponent and the ball did not get by Old School. He has reminded opponents who temporarily lost their manners to check on their parents’ dental plan before acting poorly again. Old School is a winner and a Legend. You do not fuck with Old School.

The Champ is one of the founding members of the mighty LWO. Often referred to as "White" in the early years of the LWO, Wade magically transformed into the Champ one perfect day in Williams Lake. The greatness of this day has been chronicled in the novella by Mark Majestic and is fittingly titled "The Perfect Day." 2010 saw a brief return to glory by the Champ, but a combination of three straight Bull Max pulls by Ethan and a hearty helping of vodka resulted in a short-lived sequel. Over the years, the Champ has excelled on the field, capturing MVPs in 1998 and 1999 and scoring the golden goal in the 1998 tourney. The Champ is also an important presence in the beer gardens, where his beautiful voice can be heard belting out Father Abraham. Due to missing several LWO events (including, but not limited to, the 2009, and 2019 tournies) "Wade" was briefly demoted to the rank of "That guy who used to play with us" which soiled his remarkable run with the LWO. However, thanks to a viral appearance on LWO Radio, The Champ has risen in stature and social rank again.

The LWO's signing of Lebs in the summer of 2003 has often been considered as the main factor in turning the LWO's on-field play around 360 degrees. Lebs has learned many a lesson from Old School over the years and now knows stuff that you don't even know about. His on-field accomplishments are too numerous to mention. To list them on paper would require cutting down a swath of trees. It would be ridiculous to even try. Lebs is also a key player in Jenga and One-touch Grebe. He has been known to make many a long distance call from his cell phone on tourney weekends with his great long distance plan. Lebs' off-field accomplishments include sleepwalking The Marathon of Hope in Vernon and nearly choking on a chicken wing at the Prestige. A comeback in 2019 with the o35 Legends led to a bruised cornea and a championship.

Hammer started patrolling the left mid for the LWO in 2005. Hammer is known for his left-footedness, speed, fitness, crosses and heavy shot. If you were to pick all the desirable attributes of a left mid, you would end up with something resembling Michael Dean Perry. Off the field, he is known for his streamlined attire, more than generous endowment, and losing a puke-off in Williams Lake to T. On the field, he has been ducked by Zidane and forced the Midget to fake an injury and sub himself off after being burnt by the Hammer on the first play of a lopsided quarterfinal victory over the Grebes in 2007 (a victory that resulted in the permanent extinction of the Grebes). Mikey was a key contributor to the o35 Legends during their 2019 run to a championship.

Hammer started patrolling the left mid for the LWO in 2005. Hammer is known for his left-footedness, speed, fitness, crosses and heavy shot. Monty lives and breathes the LWO. Those who witnessed The Dancing Bear in the late ‘90s will not soon forget the frustration of opponents as Monty kept the ball as long as he wanted to have it. Nor will we forget his testing the commitment of opponents who dared line up in the wall as he was about to strike a free kick. Monty scored. Monty danced. Monty did whatever he wanted to do. As the LWO manager and tourney organiser, Monty’s contributions have only grown. Off the field, Monty is not afraid to apologize to those that feel wronged by him (“I’m sorry. I’m sorry you’re such a punk-ass bitch.”). Monty has achieved pants-down soccer immortality both from the Salmon Arm Observer and for his ongoing battles with the feisty Kelly Vincent. His yearly rendition of the days of the week song in Vernon is something to truly behold and not even window screens can hold him back from performing this tune.

Sherm is an August Long Legend. He followed up his four tourney victories with Williams Lake with a fifth in his 2006 LWO debut. Kelly Sherman is a goal-scoring machine who, it would seem, has found the fountain of youth. It is widely believed that Sherm is the all-time leading goal scorer in the August Long tourney ... with many goals yet to be scored. Off the field, he is always the Last Man Standing in Vernon – a title that helped ensure him witnessing such memorable moments as meeting a mini-motorbike driving Axl Rose. Sherm is also a dedicated crab walker, although his love for this endeavor did result in him losing his wedding ring on a road trip to Williams Lake. Sherm is still contributing to championships, including 2019 and 2023 with the 040 Legends.

Ron, like John Mucjin and Chad Polson before him, is the latest to fill the vital role of energetic and chaos causing striker AND enforcer. When opposing teams look to take liberties on the mighty Lightning, you can bet that Ronnie will receive a tap on the shoulder from Monty and the score (whether on the scoresheet or the refs booking list) will be settled. Ron's combination of size, speed and athleticism make him a defender's nightmare, and many a foe have gone in hard for a challenge and ended up face down ass up. One of Ron's most endearing moments did not happen on the playing field; when Coolio bit off a bit more than he could chew in the gardens one night, Ron and Brian Adams came to the rescue. The mere presence of these twin towers convinced the trouble makers to turn home.

A devastating presence on right mid in the 1998 and 1999 championship years of the LWO, Jose’s commitment to the LWO cause is beyond reproach . For many years, Jose has made the trek from Toronto to run with the Lightning. His athleticism on the pitch is matched only by his double-skipping ability in Vernon parking lots. Jose has proven a clutch penalty kick taker and a big-game player as is evidenced by his opening goal of the 1998 finals against Williams Lake. His dedication to the team is shown through financial donations and regular trips all the way from T.O. to attend a wide variety of LWO events. His goals in the debut of the 040 Legends in 2019 were instrumental in their championship run. Jose was also a co-founder of the idea that became the Legends. Genius. For serious.

The Rock earned his stripes while apprenticing with Coolio, Monty & Guy in the mighty SMSL. His first tourney with our group was actually in Saltspring. And what a debut. In the semis, Rock stepped over a ball near centre that led directly to a breakaway goal. He followed that by hacking a guy down inside in the 18, despite there being no threat on goal at the time. Rock’s LWO career has been highlight after highlight. A Rock-solid defender whose Legend has grown with time. His off-field greatness includes being the drunkest guy at the tourney one evening, but still managing to come up with an impressive feat to which Robbie Nall bore witness.

Some famous footballers are so well known that they are known by only one name. (see Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka...) Well T-roy is so valuable in LWO circles that when the single letter "T" is uttered, you know who is the man. T-roy is one of the pillars of the LWO who, along with MacDad, is the "glue" that keeps the LWO machine together and unified. He puts in countless hours of organizational tasks such as tourney work, hotel bookings, camping organization , housing the team at August long, and being the CEO of the LWO hockey pool (one of the major fundraisers of the LWO). A man who bleeds yellow and black, his job description also includes LWO merchandising guru extraordinaire. T-roy has been stalwart in the backline for the Lightning for over a decade and although he may be small in stature, when angered T-roy has a mouth that is large and filthy enough for a man twice his size. Get on his bad side and he will cuss you out or call you "the ugliest kid I've ever seen." Troy has been on every single soccer and hockey championship team and his contributions to recruitment and accounting cannot be measured. T-Roy is a Legend among Legends.

Once, there was this Pebbles who joined the LWO just like his brother Rock. But when he finally did so, he broke his leg in Vernon and missed a year of soccer. Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm. Pebbles honed his craft while playing for SFU and joined the LWO in 2007. In 2010, the LWO instituted the “Pebbles Rule”, which bans excessively intoxicated players from the field of play. That one misgiving aside, Pebs is a key figure for the LWO, whether it be on defence or in the midfield. He plays with a combination of skill and intensity matched by few, but admired by many. And he does a pretty sweet Crash Test Dummies cover (in fact the start of this bio write up was inspired by a CTD song). His contributions to the 2019 o35 championship included a sweet play that Rock Senior approved of.

Robbie Nall joined the LWO via his connections with LWO members on Bays United. Bob has exquisite touch and is an excellent target striker who is always in the right spot on the field. Due to his English roots, Robbie loves the scorching heat that Salmon Arm offers every August Long. He thrives in warm weather. In the finals of 2006, Robbie used his extensive training in Circle of Trust to prevent a Canmore defender from clearing the ball. With the grace of a pelican, Robbie then stole the ball, laid it off to Mac and celebrated like it was his job after Gammy slotted home the championship goal. Bobby's return to Vernon in 2019 led to a championship for the o35 Legends...God bless Robbie Nall.

Gussy is one of the former stars of the Williams Lake team that was a key factor in August Long tourneys through the ‘90s and early in the 2000’s. Gussy can flat out kill the ball. A devastating shooter with either foot, Gussy is a huge threat off of free kicks. A striker or outside mid, Gussy lists joining the LWO as the highlight of his soccer career. Gussy hosted many of us in Williams Lake the night The Champ was born (as he has done on many other occasions). From that historic night, Gussy holds the LWO record for most rugs urinated on by The Champ. A stalwart with the Legends of Hockey, Gussy is still trying to get his soccer mojo back and we look forward to his return to Vernon.

Matty P has accomplished a great deal both on and off the field. A stalwart defender in the 1990s, Matty P was known for grabbing the thumbs of the opposition’s strikers in an attempt to frustrate and bewilder those who came up against the LWO. Fatty is also a key member of the LWO’s favourite band, The Gay Nessmans, in which he sings and dominates the drums. Perhaps Matty’s most noteworthy moment came in a Quarterfinal matchup with Williams Lake. In need of a calming influence on the field, Monty called on Matty P only to find that he was missing. After a brief search, Fatty was located in line for a hot dog. Calm. Composed. Living the dream.

Keithski is a beauty. He joined the LWO just in time for our 2006 championship run and likes to point out that he was not on the field for a single goal against the entire tourney. Keithski even managed to spend one of the evenings of that tourney on Old School’s trampoline. Creating offence from defence. Incredible patience and control. Scooping guys and letting out a big “Wooo!” to let them know about it. Keithski has it all. Off the field, Keithski is an ambassador for the LWO. We could all learn a thing or two by following Keithski around for an evening and just doing what he does to promote the LWO’s cause.

Sexual escapades: countless
A vital cog in three tourney championships in the 1990s, Spilly has since devoted his talents to ensuring The Gay Nessmans remain a worldwide musical powerhouse. The 1999 tourney was particularly memorable for Spilly as he shaved his facial hair piece-by-piece after each LWO victory, resulting in a snappy Hitler-like moustache for the final (note: The LWO in no way align with those of Hitler...and to the best of our knowledge, Spilly’s beliefs do not either). Spilly also has the uncanny ability to suddenly become a goal scoring machine as demonstrated in both Williams Lake and Vernon. His gorgeous knee ball from the top of the 18 in WL was topped only by his 2 identical back post run goals during the 2019 Vernon tourney. Off the field, Spilly has been generous enough to allow Monty to strike him in the face with a chair, host a team party that ended with Guy trashing his mom’s house, and do some outstanding work with amputees. Spilly has set an example for all involved with the LWO as to the greatness that we can achieve both on and off the field. Spilly's 2 goal performance (and lightshow in his hotel room) in his o40 tourney debut will be spoken of for generations...Fucking Legendary!

The Predator is the only LWO member to include his phone number on his LWO jersey to provide an easy visual to the lovely ladies in attendance. Levi honed his skills in a small town in Ontario (Toronto) prior to making his LWO debut. Levi holds the LWO record for most 13-hole golf courses played on his wedding day. Off the field, Levi is a founding member of the Nessmans tribute band, The Phatty Gays. The Predator is also the co-founder of the idea that became the Legends. As a testament to the fact that he is a true Legend, Levi has made multiple treks from Toronto to Vernon. In his Legends’ appearances, Levi has scored his share of goals including a couple that crossed the goal line but no the back of the net...Legendary gentle touch! Levi has no regrets about his short but intense time with Kawhi.

Scotty has been a prominent member of the LWO for years, but due to a technicality (not attending Aug Long) he was not a full "badge" member until his appearance in 2011. His love of 1980s hip hop, making love on couches while watching movies, and cooking bacon in the nude has made him a favorite in the changeroom. Get him together with Sean (formerly "The Rock") Fogarty and Keithski and you have a recipe for disaster. Scotty is super famous for going viral as the co-host of LWO Radio and being the spokesman for such innovative products as the "Shitbit" with turtlehead technology and "Inyourendos". Much respect to Scotty for his contributions to Holla's MD campaigns and for maintaining that he could beat a chimp in a battle to the death.
